Earlier this month, rumours began emerging that AMD was planning on releasing a 105W TDP mode for its Ryzen 9000 Series, specifically for the 65W Ryzen 7

9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X. That's been confirmed as true by MSI, who seemingly released the update as part of a BIOS setting.

To be clear, the mode update isn't officially provided by AMD, with the chipmaker appears to have left that responsibility to its board partners, with MSI having apparently beaten its rivals to the punch. An X user who goes by the name kuroberu reportedly tested the new 105W TDP mode, and even provided screenshots, to prove that the update was kosher.

To reiterate, the 105W TDP mode is only available for the 65W TDP Ryzen 9000 Series, and should technically boost their performance. By kuroberu's account, that magic number is about 13% faster than the default 65W mode. Again, it's MSI that has come out in front by releasing the 105W mode via an AGESA update - we've scanned the drivers and BIOS update page of ASUS and Gigabyte but at the time of writing, the update hasn't appeared. The most recent AGESA update on their page is for version 1.2.0.0a, which was necessary in order to have the Ryzen 9000 Series run properly for AMD's 600 series motherboards. That, and the fact that the 800 Series motherboards are not yet available.
