Instead of spending close to a billion dollars for new car bridges at Indooroopilly, a state MP and public transport advocates support reopening the nearby Tennyson freight rail line to passengers.
There is a renewed push to reopen Brisbane’s forgotten Tennyson rail line in the western suburbs rather than spending a billion dollars on two new car bridges at Indooroopilly.Indooroopilly’s 87-year-old Walter Taylor Bridge,Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner on Tuesday offered to pay one-third of the cost and asked the Queensland and Australian governments to each contribute a third.
Queensland Transport Minister Mark Bailey on Thursday rejected the council’s request for funds to build two new car bridges at Indooroopilly. It connected the Ipswich line with the Beenleigh line from Corinda to the Cross River Rail-boosted Yeerongpilly station beside the Queensland Tennis Centre. “It would give people a cross-suburban connection without having to go via Roma and Central stations.”

‘Government’s unreliable and expensive renewables’ are set to rise energy bills by 39 per centInstitute of Public Affairs John Storey says Australian power bill prices won't be going down – instead they will be increasing by 39 per cent in the next year. “For the average family that’s about $730 per family per year, it’s a huge expense and again it’s because of the policies of the government to shut down reliable cheap traditional energy sources like coal and gas,” Mr Storey told Sky News contributor Steve Price. “Instead, we're going for unreliable expensive renewables, it's entirely predictable the … result will be higher prices.”

2023 budget hands down a ‘responsible series of measures’: Anthony AlbanesePrime Minister Anthony Albanese has spoken to Sky News Australia about the budget that was delivered by Treasurer Jim Chalmers on Tuesday night, which includes a $14.6 billion cost-of-living package. Mr Albanese says the 2023 budget hands down a 'responsible series of measures'. 'This is a responsible budget, which at the same time has found space in order to provide support through measures like the energy price relief plan,' Mr Albanese said. 'We could have done what some suggested, which is to hand cash out to provide that support – instead, we designed a mechanism to reduce people's power bills that provides that support to families while at the same time it, therefore, is deflationary as a measure. 'So, this is a well-thought-out budget – we've been working hour after hour, day after day, week after week to put together a responsible budget that provides that support where it's most needed while not adding to inflationary pressure.'
