An adult male died in a motorcycle crash on westbound Interstate 80 in Berkeley on Thursday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol said. CHP spokesperson Adib Zeid said officers were called to the scene at 1:27 p.m. The preliminary investigation revealed that a motorcyclist was lane-splitting between the two left-most lanes when he collided with a Mazda in the far-left lane and fell to the ground. A tow truck hit the motorcyclist who was in the roadway, Zeid said.

"It's unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs was a factor in this crash," Zeid told SFGATE on the phone. The incident is under investigation.
