The rider in his 50s was competing in the Kalgoorlie Desert Race just outside the city — about 600km east of Perth — when he crashed at about 9.30am AWST.
A spokesperson for St John WA said ambulance crews responded to an emergency call and took the man, who had life-threatening injuries, to Kalgoorlie hospital, where he died.
In statement on social media, Kalgoorlie Desert Race said there had been an incident in the motorbike event of Saturday's race. "As a result of the incident, all of today's competition has been cancelled whilst event organisers address the situation," it read. A WA police spokesperson said Worksafe officers were investigating the incident, with police to prepare a report for the coroner.
