A tragic incident in Bandar Baru Uda, Johor Bahru, saw a 42-year-old mother and her 14-year-old daughter found dead in their parked car. Initial investigations point to a leaking petrol line as the cause of death, with fumes entering the car's air conditioning system. The police are conducting a thorough investigation while treating the case as sudden death.
A mother and her teenage daughter were found deceased in a car parked opposite a school in Bandar Baru Uda yesterday evening. The Johor Bahru Utara police chief, ACP Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh, stated that the 42-year-old woman and her 14-year-old daughter were discovered in the vehicle, with the engine still running, by members of the public at 9:30 pm.
Initial investigations suggest that the incident was caused by a leaking petrol line in the engine, leading to the condensation of petrol fumes entering the car's air-conditioning system. According to ACP Balveer, it is believed that the mother and daughter had been shopping around Bandar Baru Uda and stopped at the roadside to rest. The woman reportedly complained of feeling unwell and wished to stop driving to rest, as indicated by their last conversation in a WhatsApp group on the woman's mobile phone. The police are currently investigating the duration for which the woman and her child, who resided in Bakar Batu, were inside the car at the scene. ACP Balveer emphasized that there are no indications of criminal involvement in the deaths, and checks will be conducted on the woman's medical history. The investigation is also seeking further information, including the mother's occupation, but efforts have been hampered as the victim's husband, who works in Singapore, is emotionally distraught. Both bodies were transported to the Forensics Department of Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) for examination, and the case is being treated as sudden death

Johor Bahru Faces Potential Traffic Congestion with Weekend ShiftThe change in weekend holidays to Saturday and Sunday in Johor, Malaysia, is expected to result in increased traffic congestion on main roads and in the city center. This is due to the overlapping weekend breaks for government, private sector employees, and citizens of Singapore. State authorities hope ongoing road upgrade projects, particularly around Johor Bahru, will be completed on schedule to mitigate the issue. Three routes are being identified to ease traffic flow in and out of Johor Bahru city center: Iskandar Puteri, Tebrau, and Skudai. Authorities also anticipate the integrated and high-quality public transportation network, including the Rapid Transit System Link (RTS Link) scheduled to launch in January 2027, will reduce car usage and congestion.
