'Whites, Hispanics, young, old, rich, poor, independents, Republicans, city dwellers, suburbanites, and rural Americans all approved of banning the use of race in college admissions.' -conncarroll
According to a YouGov poll taken after the decision was released, 59% of adult U.S. citizens approve of “the Supreme Court’s decision on affirmative action, which ruled that colleges are not allowed to consider an applicant’s race when making decisions on admissions.” Just 27% disapproved of the decision. What may be particularly surprising for Democrats is that more black adults approved of the ruling than disapproved .
Whites, Hispanics, young, old, rich, poor, independents, Republicans, city dwellers, suburbanites, and rural Americans all approved of banning the use of race in college admissions. Grades were the most popular tool respondents thought colleges should use in the admissions process , followed by standardized test scores . Ideology and political beliefs were the least popular criteria.
While 37% of black adults thought the Supreme Court’s decisions would decrease diversity on college campuses, 17% thought it would increase diversity and 22% said it would have no impact. Perhaps more importantly, only 11% of black adults said they had been positively affected by affirmative action policies.Reacting to the Supreme Court’s decision last month, President Joe Biden said, “This is not a normal court,” and added, “We cannot let this decision be the last word.
Biden may have been placating the far Left wing of his party, but he is wildly out of step with the rest of the nation on this issue.
