The Halal Development Corporation Bhd (HDC) revealed that over 70% of Halal certificate holders in Malaysia are non-Bumiputera companies. HDC chairman Khairul Azwan Harun stated that this is not an issue as these companies adhere to JAKIM standards. He emphasized that applications for full Halal certification require recognition from other agencies like MeSTI, GMP, and HACCP. HDC aims to assist Bumiputera companies in obtaining Halal certifications to expand their international reach. Meanwhile, only 1,600 out of 9,162 companies with JAKIM Halal certification are exporters, a small figure compared to the USD3 trillion global Halal market.
The Halal Development Corporation Bhd recently revealed that a majority of Halal certificate holders in Malaysia are actually non-Bumiputera companies, comprising more than 70%.
BERNAMA quoted Khairul as saying that the applications by these companies meet the standards set by JAKIM, which requires a company to receive recognition from other agencies as well.“Applications for full Halal certification can only be submitted once a company has received recognition from the Food Safety is the Responsibility of the Industry ; Good Manufacturing Practice and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point .
