Following a recent incident of a non-Muslim man intruding into a mosque in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysian authorities are reviewing and improving standard operating procedures (SOPs) at all mosques.
Procedures and standard operating procedures ( SOP ) at all mosques, especially in the capital city, will be reviewed and improved as a safety measure. The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said this step was taken to prevent any recurrence of mosque intrusion incidents reported yesterday.
He did not rule out the possibility of introducing new SOPs at mosques upon receiving a complete report on yesterday's incident from the Islamic Religious Department of Wilayah Persekutuan (JAWI). \“However, I am waiting for a full report from JAWI. \Moreover, we need to remember that not all mosques under JAWI's supervision have security guards. That's why we need to first see how far we can allow (depending on capability) for a mosque to employ its own security, ” he said while attending the Opening Ceremony of the Academic Complex of the International Islamic University of Malaysia (MAIWP) here today. Previously, a video of a non-Muslim man suspected of experiencing mental distress went viral, reporting an intrusion into a mosque in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI). The incident is believed to have occurred before Subuh prayers and the man involved stormed in and caused a commotion. - UTUSA
