RANAU: A 24-year-old local woman who suffered from ankle injury while scaling Mount Kinabalu had to be rescued by the Mount Kinabalu search and rescue team (Mosar) in another incident here on Wednesday.

Ranau Fire and Rescue Department Chief, PPgB Ridwan Bin Mohd Taib, said the incident happened at km 4.8 of the Mount Kinabalu climbing trail, at about 1.30pm.“We received a call through the Station Line and a team of seven personnel from Mosar led by the Operation Officer, PBB Felix Taimin rushed to the scene. Also involved was a mountain guide and Sabah Park rangers.

“When the team arrived at the location situated 2km from the Mosar post, we found that there was a climber who had sprained her left ankle and could not continue her climb. “Rescuers acted to provide initial treatment and then brought the victim down to Timpohon Gate using a piggy back carrying method,” he said.

According to Ridwan, the victim was then rushed to the Hospital using an ambulance for further treatment, and the whole operation ended at 4pm.He added that the incident on Wednesday became the third case for the month of Nov 2023 and it also marked the 42nd victim of illness or injury on Mount Kinabalu so far this year.* Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel for the latest news you don't want to miss.
