Law firm Morgan, Lewis & Bockius has hired another partner from Stroock & Stroock & Lavan, this time adding a real estate partner who had been at Stroock for four years.
Michael McCarthy has joined Morgan Lewis' New York office as a partner, the firm said. He advises lenders, borrowers and investors on commercial real estate finance.
New York-founded Stroock has been shedding partners as it hunts for another law firm to merge with it. Last month, Stroock and Nixon Peabody called off merger talks. Stroock has said it is pursuing continued discussions with other firms.Morgan Lewis from Stroock last week, Morgan Lewis said. That five-partner team included Richard Stern, who led Stroock's restructuring practice, and Matthew O'Donnell, who led its debt finance practice.
McCarthy has a "keen grasp of capital markets and history overseeing all manner of real estate deals," Jami McKeon, the chair of Morgan Lewis, said in a statement.the necessary votes from retired partners to move forward with a complete buyout of the law firm's pension, a potential roadblock to a possible merger.
Stroock had more than 230 lawyers in 2021, the American Lawyer reported. Its website currently lists around 160 lawyers.
