Breaking: More than 130 chickens seized by SPCA from cockfighting operation in Dallas
The Society of Prevention of Animal Cruelty of Texas on Saturday announced that it had seized 133 birds from a rooster fighting operation in the Rylie area of Dallas.Police are investigating a large cockfighting operation in the Rylie area of Dallas, where more than 100 chickens were seized by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Texas over the weekend.
The animal cruelty prevention organization was called in to help with the removal of the birds, which included 125 roosters — two of which were dead — and eight hens. The birds are being evaluated and cared for at the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center in Dallas, the organization announced Saturday.
The group said dead chickens were found throughout the property, and that cockfighting paraphernalia, including scales and steel spurs, were found. Other animals were also at the property, the group said, but police did not seize them.
