IPOH: A total of 100 drive-through recycling centres are expected to be set up in the country, says the Local Government Development Minister.
“The concept is similar to what is done at fast food outlets, where people can drive to such centres to drop off old newspapers, plastic bottles and used cooking oil and get paid as well,” said Nga.
“The money will probably be enough to have a meal, or to do simple marketing such as purchasing vegetables or meat,” he added. Speaking at the launch of the National Landscape Day 2023 at the D.R Seenivasagam Park here today. , Nga said that his ministry plans to set up more such centres at strategic locations.
He added that the recycling percentage currently stands at 33%, and said that the ministry plans to increase it to 40% by 2025. “I am hoping the initiative will take place soon, especially in Perak. Such drive-through centres are currently available among others in the Federal Territory, Kedah, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Johor and Perlis,” he said.
