Montgomery County's new voting machines cause concern over security, ease of use

With Montgomery County rolling out new voting machines for the November elections, one local organization is concerned some voters may be left at a disadvantage with a lack of information about the devices.

of 1,900 Hart Intercivic voting machines in September 2021 to replace the county’s antiquated machines from 2005.

Montgomery County NAACP leader Carl White is concerned about possible confusion the new machines may cause for elderly and non-English speaking voters. Harris County, White said, has provided a video and other information regarding the same voting machines since approving a $54 million purchase of 12,000 Hart Intercivic machines for voters in January 2021.

Voters will enter their selections via a touch screen and when finished print the ballot. The voter will then scan the ballot in to be tabulated and it is then dropped into a secure holding box, Harvey said.
