You’d think that I was kind of well versed in the Monterey Jazz Festival, because it was so close. Oddly enough, though I was into jazz at a very young age, I had never been to the festival – not because I didn’t want to, it just never came up on my radar.
I got to know her just because we had collaborated on some educational projects together. She would tell me, “Oh, I am on the board at the Monterey Jazz Festival and you should come sometime.”
