“I was like, ‘If it happens, it happens,’ but I’ve still gotta go and compete. I’ve still got to go do my job.”
MESA, Ariz. — Chris Bassitt is gone to the Mets and Sean Manaea is now with the Padres, but Frankie Montas is still wearing the green and gold.
The season is now, and Montas will make his second Opening Day start in three years for the A’s on Friday in Philadelphia. He’ll be the first starting pitcher new manager Mark Kotsay sends to the mound. “I feel pretty good,” Montas said. “I think my pitches are season-ready. I feel pretty good, I feel really comfortable with my pitches. Just waiting for them to ring the bell.”
