A 70-year-old fisherman in Rantau Panjang benefits from the overflowing Sungai Golok during the monsoon season, catching an abundance of fish.
Flood waters from Sungai Golok river during the monsoon season have brought fortune to a senior citizen from Kampung Lubok Gong. Azizah Abdullah, 70, said she has been setting her fishing nets behind her house throughout the monsoon season and caught many river fish such as catfish, tilapia, river carp, or Asian catfish. 'I drive a boat twice a day to collect these fish.
During the flood season, the water from Sungai Golok overflows to the banks and the fish get trapped in the nets,' she said when met yesterday. According to Azizah, the river fish are sold between RM14 and RM24 per kilogram depending on size and type. She said Sungai Golok is her source of livelihood as she has lived on the banks of the river for decades. 'I've been earning a living by fishing with nets for 20 years. No matter the season, whether it's flood or drought, I go down to Sungai Golok to catch fish. But the monsoon season brings more abundant fortune,' she said
