Moneylender and Runner Charged With Trafficking Syabu in Tawau

A 51-year-old moneylender and a 35-year-old runner were charged in Tawau for allegedly trafficking over 130kg of syabu. The duo faces potential death or life imprisonment under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

TAWAU : A moneylender and a runner were charged on Wednesday with trafficking 130,575.18gm of syabu last month. Ng Chuan Tong, 51, and Herman Patte, 35, indicated that they understood the charge when it was read before Magistrate Dayang Aidaku Amira Aminuddin.

AdvertisementNo plea was recorded pending the chemist’s report on the drug, and their plea will be taken at the High Court. According to the charge, they allegedly jointly trafficked the drug at Batu 15, Jalan Apas here at 9.30pm on April 21, 2026.

The court fixed June 2 for mention and ordered the duo to be further remanded as the charge carries no provision for bail. Advertisement Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Haikal Hazwan Md Yatin appeared for the prosecution, while both accused were unrepresented.
