Some of the best mountain bike trails in Australia, spanning 130 kilometres, are about to open in a forest scorched by bushfires. Locals hope it will transform their town into a tourism mecca.
Locals hope a new mountain bike trail network will increase tourism and help transform their town into an international travel destination. The first 70 kilometres of the Mogo Mountain Bike Trail Network will open on August 17.
The 130-kilometre-long trail winds through Mogo State Forest on the NSW south coast, two hours from Canberra. Shops along the main street of Mogo were decimated after the Black Summer Bushfires tore through the town on New Years Eve 2019.The local council's 2022 plan for Mogo predicted the trails would create 20 full-time jobs and attract 45,000 visitors within the first year, transforming the town into an international tourism destination.
Currently, there is no accommodation in Mogo, while the council has just begun work to install two new toilets in the town.
