Most of the money will be used to prepare the ground for “Phase 2″ of the plan, which includes construction of a championship field, an artificial turf field and parking lots.

The Mobile County soccer complex is located off Halls Mill Road in Mobile, Ala., and currently features three soccer fields. The second phase of the project will include a championship field, locker rooms, and seating for 1,400 people. An additional fifth field will also be added that will include artificial turf. .Sports facilities took another step forward in Mobile Monday, after the Mobile County Commission voted to allocate another $4 million to the Mobile County Soccer Complex.

“Two years ago, it wouldn’t have cost as much as it did today,” County Commission President Connie Hudson said. “The longer you wait for a project, regardless of market conditions, the more expensive it is to build, but we didn’t have any choice.” In order to make sure the ground is ready to hold bleachers, turf and other facilities, the county will have to engage in a process called “Next month, Hudson says that the county commission will allocate more money to start the design process for “Phase 3″ of the project, which is constructing the remaining soccer fields. When it is completed, the soccer complex will contain ten fields, including the championship field.

When the complex will be completed, though, remains to be seen: Hudson introduced the idea for the soccer complex, as well as an aquatic center and water park, in 2012. The county has slowly worked to allocate money to the projects, despite political fights. Since the project isn’t funded by bond, it can only move forward as it receives more money.
