In fact, the single cab is our first taste of what we can expect the updated Triton range to look like – it's undoubtedly sleek and pointy from the front, even with typical workhorse plastic cladding which extends to the door handles, wing mirrors and rear bumper. Steel wheels complete their functional appearance.
"The launch of the Single Cab is firmly directed at the fleet and small business market and aimed to provide a cost-effective solution in the face of the steadily rising fuel price and the recent repo rates hike," explains Jeffrey Allison, Head of Marketing at Mitsubishi Motors SA . "Offering a more versatile commercial vehicle range clearly indicates MMSA's consumer-centric approach of listening to and acting on customers' needs."Echoing the above, the GL is powered by a single choice of drivetrain: a 100kW, 324Nm turbo diesel with a claimed consumption figure of 8.0l/100km. The gearbox is a six-speed manual with some additional off-roading traction provided by the standard limited-slip differential.
Despite its low entry price point, standard specification includes rear air vents, auto wipers and auto headlamps, while safety systems include ABS and airbags for driver and passenger. The entire commercial vehicle line-up – including the Triton Double Cab GL – is covered by a three-year or 100 000km manufacturer's warranty as standard, along with a five-year or 90 000km service plan.
