The search for a missing man, who did not return home after he told his family he was going for a swim, has ended in tragedy after his body was discovered at a popular Sydney beach.
The 54-year-old Maroubra man had been missing since the weekend after he did not come home from a swim.
In a statement, New South Wales Police said the man told his family on Saturday he was going for a swim at Maroubra.A body, believed to belong to a missing swimmer, has been found at Coogee Beach. Picture NCA Newswire/ Gaye Gerard Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command were called to Coogee Beach at about 6.30pm on Wednesday where they found the man's body.
The discovery comes after police made an appeal to the public for help to find the missing 54-year-old on the weekend. NSW Police said while the body was yet to be formally identified, they were liaising with the man's family.
