MIRI: An increasing number of traders at Ramadan bazaars here are going"green" by no longer using styrofoam containers and plastic bags to sell food.

The Miri City Council is giving recognition to these traders for their environment-friendly initiatives. Miri mayor Adam Yii and his team of councillors are going around the city praising and handing out on-the-spot certificates of appreciation to these"green" traders. "It is heartening to see an increased number of Ramadan traders this year going green by selling their buka puasa goodies using bio-degradable materials like paper-wrappings."We, in the city council, thank them for their initiatives," he said, hoping that more traders would be encouraged to do the same.

He presented certificates of appreciation to numerous"green" traders during a visit to the Ramadan stalls at the Miri Indoor Stadium compound.
