MIRI: At least 6,300kg of e-waste made up of unwanted electronic equipment was picked up by the city council in just one collection session.
Karambir Singh, Miri City Council chairman for Sustainable Development Committee, said on Friday that the waste was made up of old computers, damaged fax-machines, obsolete printers and other unwanted equipment.
"We opened a public collection facility at the council Green Hub centre and members of the public came and dropped off that volume in that single collection session," he said. "All the e-waste collected will be sent for recycling. If not collected properly, they may end up being thrown away in dumpsites or in any rubbish bins.
"By collecting from the public, we can reduce such bulky and non-biodegradable waste products in Miri," he said.
