NSW Premier Chris Minns has broken ranks to criticise Anthony Albanese for “imposing” daunting housing supply targets on NSW.

Premier Chris Minns has lashed Anthony Albanese and the federal Labor government for “imposing” ambitious housing supply targets on NSW, demanding taxpayers get their “fair share from the Commonwealth” in return.

Premier Chris Minns has accused the federal government of “imposing” ambitious housing supply targets on NSW.As part of the deal, Albanese offered states and territories access to the $3 billion New Home Bonus, giving jurisdictions $15,000 for every home delivered above the old target of 1 million homes over five years from July 2024.

Asked why he now believed the higher supply targets were “imposed” given he was part of the decision-making body which unanimously agreed to the more ambitious accord, Minns said: “It’s all semantics at this point”. Addressing a NSW Property Council lunch, Minns said he was unafraid to turn to the nuclear option if necessary, alluding to tools already at the government’s disposal.

Albanese govt facing fierce backlash from communities over controversial wind projectAlbanese govt facing fierce backlash from communities over controversial wind projectOpposition Leader Peter Dutton is calling on the government to reopen the consultation process for the Hunter Coast Offshore Wind Project. The Opposition leader has spent Wednesday morning meeting local residents and business owners on the New South Wales mid-north coast who are against the wind farm project. The declared wind zone stretches 18,000 square kilometres from Swansea to Port Stephens and is at least 20 kilometres offshore. The Albanese government says it received almost 2,000 submissions as part of its consultation process earlier in the year and in July it reduced the size of the wind zone to exclude the central coast town of Norah Head following fierce community backlash. The community in Port Stephens say their concerns about the wind turbine project potentially destroying the natural environment are being ignored. Mr Dutton says residents and business owners in Shoal Bay are being treated like second-class citizens over the lack of consultation over the government's renewable wind project. “The consultation process just hasn’t been up to scratch, and I think this is another project where Chris Bowen has misread the community, is acting against the best interest of this region,” Mr Dutton said on Wednesday. “This project needs to be put on hold until a proper consultation process can be undertaken.” The government is pushing ahead with the Hunter Coast Offshore Wind Project which is expected to create 3,000 construction jobs and the windfarm is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than four million homes.
