Minimum allowance for interns needs to be studied, says Teo

Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching says the law would have to be changed to make it mandatory for firms to take in students for practical training.– The Malaysian Insight file pic, March 18, 2019.

THE proposal to set a minimum allowance for students of institutions of higher learning undergoing internships requires an in-depth study so as not to burden industry, said Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching. She said setting a minimum allowance might burden employers, especially small- and medium-sized enterprises, and they won’t be able to afford to take in students for practical training.
