Microsoft and OpenAI will grow their partnership now that Microsoft has confirmed the company will invest $10 billion into the artificial intelligence company.
The deal will extend collaborations between the two companies from 2019 and 2020 to include AI supercomputing and research, while enabling both to independently commercialize the resulting advanced AI technologies.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is looking to grow the company's involvement in artificial intelligence with a $10 billion investment into OpenAI following the company's $29 billion valuation and ChatGPT announcement in November 2022. Satya Nadella, chairman and CEO of Microsoft, said in the release "We formed our partnership with OpenAI around a shared ambition to responsibly advance cutting-edge AI research and democratize AI as a new technology platform."
"In this next phase of our partnership, developers and organizations across industries will have access to the best AI infrastructure, models, and toolchain with Azure to build and run their applications," he added.As part of Microsoft’s latest partnership, the company will increase investments in the development and deployment of specialized supercomputing systems to accelerate OpenAI’s independent AI research, while deploying OpenAI’s models across consumer and enterprise products.
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, said in the joint announcement, the company’s relationship over the last three years has been great.
