According to an ESPN report, Michigan's alleged sign-stealing operation could stretch back as early as the 2021 season.
In a report identifying a low-level staffer as the source of the alleged improper in-person scouting operation, ESPN cited a source saying the programs used “an ‘elaborate’ scouting system to steal signals from future opponents since at least 2021.”
The ESPN report identified Connor Stalions, a retired Marine Corps captain, as the main person of interest in the NCAA investigation.
