"Heat 2" expands on the story told by Michael Mann in the 1995 film starring Val Kilmer, Al Pacino and Robert De Niro.I finished “Heat 2” the other night and then couldn’t sleep a wink afterward. Perhaps this has happened to you, where you’ve read an intense book or watched an intense film or TV show and your mind wouldn’t let it go. Didn’t want to let it go. Had to stay IN the story, even when you were pleading with your mind to not do that.
You can see how this film would not only appeal to me, but follow me like a patrol car until the day I died. Quotes from it run on a loop in my head. “Heat” was by no means a perfect film, but its coolest moments rendered those sins forgettable. Despite a middling box office gross, it has since become part of the American movie canon for a certain type of person of a certain age . The kind of movie you treasure as if you yourself made it., would want to dive back into this particular world.
And indeed, the opening of “Heat 2” almost had me concerned that this stunt would leave Mann a wet spot on the bottom of a canyon floor. The prologue is a somewhat clumsy synopsis of the 1995 film.
