We chat with Evil star MichaelEmerson about playing a detestable character on the hit paramountplus series, the evolution to raunchier stories, and the show's future:
The line between the paranormal and the spiritual is getting blurrier with Evil season 3. The supernatural drama series revolves around a forensic psychologist, Catholic seminarian, and technology contractor as they investigate a variety of potential paranormal cases while also dealing with demonic forces.
I couldn't agree more with you. It's really continued to find its footing with each new season. What I love about this season, especially, is that it truly takes advantage of its Paramount+ home in its content. Did you notice much of a change in what you were doing and seeing from this season and prior seasons?
I'm sure they do, if they are indeed up there. With that said, has there ever been anything presented to you in the scripts or an idea pitched to you by the Kings in which you had to think whether or not you would be willing to do it? Michael Emerson: Well, it got built in front of the camera. We did not know each other or had not worked together before, so we didn't have a relationship. Of course, I've always known her work and loved her work, she's so funny, but she's also dead serious and her character, it's a great tension between the two of them, because those are the only two that know the score.
So, you haven't had any proper discussions yet with the Kings about what might be coming up for you? But she needs him, too, he's offering to fulfill her dreams of power and wealth, and he's a bit of a mentor to her. He has more experience with demons, or people that look like people but aren't, so it's kind of interesting, and there is a certain element of care there. They both get each other, but that doesn't mean that they wouldn't betray each other, either.
Michael Emerson: Well, that's a good question. I'm probably the wrong one to ask, I'm not really aware of how much difference it is. The numbers don't mean much to me, I gather that we have a growing viewership. Am I right about that? Michael Emerson: Yeah, so it gets bigger and that's better.
