It brings an end to Escobar’s disappointing tenure with the Mets after he signed a two-year, $20 million deal prior to the 2022 season.

The Mets are reportedly paying all but the prorated minimum of the remainder of Escobar’s deal in order to get the prospects they want.

Escobar hit 20 home runs and had an OPS of .726 last season, but his production dipped to start this season, and he lost his starting job at third base to Brett Baty in April. After being reduced to mostly starting against lefties, Escobar will head to Los Angeles, while the Mets pick up Coleman Crow and Landon Marceaux, who were both at Double-A. Mets star Francisco Lindor was mic’d up during Friday’s game against the Phillies — when the trade was announced — and was asked about Escobar.

“He’s one of the best teammates I’ve ever had,” Lindor answered on the Apple TV broadcast. “We’re going to miss him a lot.”Eduardo Escobar makes a throw during the Mets’ clash against the Marlins on April 1.On the 7-day injured list with an undisclosed injury, Crow — a 28th-round draft pick out of high school in 2019 — had a 1.88 ERA in four starts with Double-A Rocket City."He's one of the best teammates I've ever had. We're going to miss him a lot.
