A Mesquite police officer fatally shot a man Friday night after a pursuit in which the motorist struck multiple vehicles and road signs.

About 8:45 p.m., a Mesquite officer monitoring traffic near West Scyene and Gross roads attempted to the stop a silver Honda Pilot. When the vehicle didn’t stop, the officer gave chase.The Honda hit vehicles and street signs before stopping in a yard in the 1700 block of Carnation Drive, about a mile and a half from where the chase began, police said.The driver got out of the vehicle but failed to follow the officer’s commands, according to police.
