VK Liew berkata 6 perkataan yang dikehendaki GPS tidak pernah ada dalam pindaan 1963.

VK Liew berkata peguam negara menasihatkan kerajaan untuk tidak memasukkan perkataan-perkataan itu kerana ia akan merumitkan keadaan.

Awal minggu ini, Rang Undang-undang Perlembagaan Persekutuan 2019 tewas apabila dibentangkan di Dewan Rakyat. Liew, yang merupakan menteri undang-undang berkata, Peguam Negara Tommy Thomas menasihatkan kerajaan untuk tidak memasukkan perkataan-perkataan itu kerana ia akan merumitkan keadaan.“Enam perkataan itu tidak dimasukkan oleh pengasas kita,” kata Liew pada sidang media di pejabatnya di Putrajaya.“Kita berbalik kepada susunan kata-kata yang sama seperti pada 1963; tak lebih dan tak kurang daripada itu.

Beliau berkata kerajaan sudah memasukkan ke dalam nota penjelasan, sebagai sebahagian daripada RUU itu, bahawa pindaan dibuat selaras dengan semangat MA63.Beliau juga berkata sesiapa yang mahu melihat peruntunan itu boleh merujuk kepada hansard untuk menilai niat kerajaan dalam meminda RUU itu.Kecuali kalau wakil-wakil rakyat GPS sedia menyokong pindaan seperti itu, Liew merasakan RUU itu tidak akan dibentangkan dalam masa terdekat, kerana kerajaan PH tidak mempunyai majoriti 2/3.
