Psychologists say they are struggling to meet skyrocketing demand for services and it is creating a national mental health emergency with people living in the bush far worse off.
More than a year ago, Ms McCosker began the hunt for another clinician who could be based locally and eventually take over the client book."It's not all about money for us, but we'd love to be able to afford to bulk bill people so that the people who do really need it can afford it.
"That means that some of those people we could get to and provide that early intervention will have to wait longer, and by the time we get to them, there's more distress, and it's more acute, and it's snowballing the problem," she said.AAPi's executive director, Tegan Carrison, said the drivers of distress had increased at the same time as need, overwhelming the system.
While the situation was dire, Ms Carrison said there were a number of readily available solutions that required government support.
