In the midst of Mental Health Awareness Month, the topic of mental health in the sports world has continued to remain at the forefront. For the last year, Cassidy Linton has been running her own business, called Total Athlete 365, in Dallas.
DALLAS — In the midst of Mental Health Awareness Month, the topic of mental health in the sports world has continued to remain at the forefront.
It’s that personal experience that has allowed her to have a better understanding of what her clients may be enduring. For the last year, she’s been running her own business, called Total Athlete 365, in Dallas. During a quick weekly session, Linton and Maggie reflected on the student athlete’s last year at JMU and what lies in store for Maggie’s future.
The conversation of athletes and mental health has become more prominent. In recent years, athletes like legendary gymnast Simone Biles and superstar tennis player Naomi Osaka have shared their own battles and challenges with mental health. A 2015 NCAA survey found that 30% of participating student athletes were overwhelmed, while 25% felt mentally exhausted.
