The 3AW host was scathing about the Voice to Parliament, arguing it’s “not a good look” for people to be separated by race in modern day Australia.
With the appropriate legislation to set up the referendum passing Parliament, the Yes23 campaign held events at the weekend to push for the Constitutional change.
While recent polling shows the Voice is losing support, the 3AW host said the proposal “separates people by race” which he argued is not in step with modern Australia.“The Voice to Parliament is struggling. The latest opinion polls, several of them, suggest if the referendum was held now, it will not pass,” he said.“I think it separates people by race which is not a good look in modern day Australia.
Mr Elliott, the son of the late political and business heavyweight John Elliott, said Australians can “quite rightly” oppose the Voice if they do not have a complete understanding of how it will work. “It could end up being tokenistic in the sense it won’t end up doing anything for Indigenous people, like Kevin Rudd’s ‘sorry’ back in 2008,” he said.
“We don’t know enough of how it will actually work. I think if you don’t understand something, you’re being asked to change the Australian constitution, you can quite rightly put up your hand and say ‘well I’m not going to vote for this because there’s too many unanswered questions’.”Australia truly came together for Yes, with tens of thousands attending over 30 events across the country in support of a Voice to Parliament.

‘It is going to impact everybody’: Rita Panahi on the federal Voice to ParliamentSky News host Rita Panahi says the Voice to Parliament on a federal level is going to “impact everybody” after looking at South Australia’s version being delayed by six months. “It’s going to impact everybody, it’s not going to be something where you can just say ‘well I don’t need to worry about that, I’m not a farmer, I don’t have huge tracks of land, I’m not a big business I don’t have to go through these processes’,” Ms Panahi said. “No, it is going to impact everybody, so get interested because this is our country we’re talking about. “If we have a federal Voice it’s going to turbocharge all of this because we know with the Uluru Statement of the Heart, it doesn’t stop with the Voice, we then have truth-telling, and treaty, and everything that comes with that.”
