MELAKA (Bernama): All schools in Melaka will be closed on Tuesday (Sept 17) if the Air Pollutant Index (API) reading in the state reaches more than 200 tomorrow, in line with the state’s haze action plan and the state disaster meeting held Saturday (Sept 14), says Melaka State Education Director Datuk Abu Bakar Sahari.
"The API reading in Melaka has reached more than 200. However, school closure orders on Tuesday would depend on Monday's API," he said in a statement here Sunday .
At the same time, schools were advised to reduce outdoor activities and teachers were asked to give attention to pupils or students at risk of haze, especially those with asthma. He noted that the current haze situation could have an adverse effect on an individual's health, especially the elderly and children as well as those with heart and lung diseases.
At the moment, Mohamad Rafie said it was unnecessary for the schools to be closed as the API reading in the affected areas had not exceeded 200.
