Melaka has recorded a significant number of dengue cases this year, prompting the state government to intensify prevention efforts.

Melaka recorded 1,972 dengue cases from January 1 to November 16 this year, said Melaka Health , Human Resources and Unity Exco Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem. Ngwe (BN-Machap Jaya) said it involved 1,241 cases registered in Melaka Tengah, Alor Gajah (214 cases) and Jasin (517 cases), with two deaths also recorded during the period. He said the state government together with the Melaka Health Department is intensifying efforts to prevent the dengue outbreak through various programs and activities.

Among them are the Aedes Wolbachia Mosquito Release Project in Taman Bemban Jaya, Jasin, Pangsapuri Taman Tasik Utama, and the latest in Pangsapuri Sri Utama and Desa Taming Sari Military Housing, Sungai Udang. In addition, it conducts control activities for single cases and outbreaks as well as dengue prevention activities such as the Destruction of Breeding Sites (PTP), Larvacing, Thermal Space Spraying (SRT) and Ultra Low Volume (ULV) activities. He said this in a state assembly sitting in Melaka today, in response to a question raised by Datuk Zulkiflee Mohd Zin (BN-Taboh Naning) who wanted to know the steps taken to address the increase in dengue cases in Melaka.
