Chief minister Ab Rauf Yusoh says his administration has functioned well in nearly three years of working with PH, but differing political positions led the coalition to chart its own course.
JASIN: The Melaka government will not fill the positions left vacant by Pakatan Harapan representatives following the coalition’s decision to withdraw from the administration, says chief minister Ab Rauf Yusoh.
Rauf said this includes posts in the state executive council, local councils, and village development and security committees.
“As reported by the media, the positions are automatically vacated. We will not make any new appointments because there’s not much time left ,” he told reporters after the Hari Exco Bersama Rakyat event in Merlimau today. Rauf said the state government respected Melaka PH’s decision to withdraw from the administration and have no intention of prolonging the dispute or allowing the matter to descend into personal attacks.
“We do not want this issue to become a platform for hostilities or personal attacks. Differences of opinion are acceptable, but they should be expressed professionally and in a manner that is acceptable to the public,” he said. Rauf said his state government had functioned well during nearly three years of cooperation with PH, but differing political positions had led the coalition to chart its own course.
On the possibility of Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional forming an alliance, the state BN chief said he has yet to see such an arrangement emerging in Melaka. Nonetheless, he did not rule out the possibility of a “better understanding” between the two coalitions in the state. Melaka PH withdrew from the state government after rejecting amendments to the state constitution to introduce appointed assemblymen.
