It was breathtaking watching the seven-day 2023 Invictus Games in Düsseldorf, Germany last week, but not in the way you might expect.

Meghan Markle arrived on its third day and instead of quietly sitting down, went on stage holding a microphone and confidently stole the limelight from her husband Prince Harry, the host, who became the side kick.

It was also let on that she would be doing her own hair and makeup during the games - a rather thoughtless comment as many of the 500 participants have lost limbs and would struggle to tie their shoes. It was all very hypocritical, given she has tried to bring down the Royal Family and upset Prince Philip and the late Queen Elizabeth close to both their deaths.Meghan, however, obviously wanted to show a different side.

There were no spiteful comments similar to those she shared with Oprah Winfrey about how terribly the Royal Family had treated her.Instead she presented herself in a happy, cheery manner in a constantly changing wardrobe that is said to have cost some AUD$600,000.Harry looked happy but occasionally wary. No wonder. The Games, with all its awards, was an ideal opportunity to turn on the focus to the new upbeat Meghan.A few years ago Meghan discovered that she was 43 per cent Nigerian.

Her widest smile appeared when she marched in front of three victorious military cyclists, who received medals to wear around their necks. But the fact that she didn’t have any military experience wasn’t the point.

Meghan and Harry score ‘strategic win’ in GermanyMeghan and Harry score ‘strategic win’ in GermanySky News contributor Esther Krakue says Prince Harry and Meghan Markle scored a “strategic win” in Germany as they had plenty of laughs engaging with the Invictus Games crowd. Ms Markle was also seen getting into the spirit of the Games – drinking beer, hugging athletes and filming TikTok videos with fans. “They seemed very down to earth, Meghan didn’t go with any sort of makeup team or anything like that,” Ms Krakue told Sky News host Caroline Di Russo. “She did her hair and makeup herself, she chose her own outfits, she was very calm and relaxed. “I think there was a focus on trying to make it about the athletes and about the story of the athletes.”
