These wonderful pets don't actually hang out in the newsroom, but they keep life interesting for some of the Star's reporters and staffers.Reporter Danyelle Khmara's cats, Sebastian and Sanders, are 8 and 7 years old. Danyelle says: We got Sanders at PACC when he was 8 months old. And we got Sebastian at PACC in the beginning of 2020 so Sanders would have a friend. Sanders was mad he had to share his space at first, but now they are inseparable.
Pixel Rose is our 7-year-old cat. We often call her Pixie for short. She was adopted when she and her eight siblings were at a Pet Smart looking for homes. Her original name was Manicotti … she and all of her siblings had pasta related names. Pixie acts more like a dog and always wants to snuggle. She’s climbed on my desks for many Zoom meetings making sure everyone sees her. She has a fierce rivalry with our dogs and they often fight over our attention.
Local government reporter Nicole Ludden says of Bean: I adopted Bean from an overflowing animal shelter after the onset of the pandemic in 2020. She likes to meow very loudly at 4 a.m., but she’s the absolute love of my life anyway.Sara Brown writes: This is Tebow and Zola we have had them for 15 years and they are still going strong. They are so bonded that we worry when we lose one we will lose them both so we added a new member to the family so they can bond with him.
