“Obviously, in soccer, you’re kicking a ball, but I didn’t know if it would translate directly into football,” Aubrey said in a phone interview. “When I went out there and tried it, I felt like I had the potential. But at that moment, if you put me out on the field, I knew I couldn’t do what those athletes were doing. I needed some time, and first impressions are important. I spent those two years with [Egan] before ever putting myself in front of any scouts.
Prescott and Egan were college teammates and close friends at Mississippi State. Prescott visited Warren Sports Complex in Frisco and challenged Aubrey and a second kicker present to make at least eight of 10 field goals, Aubrey recalled. Prescott dictated the distance and ball positioning on the hashes.In time, he wowed others. Aubrey impressed scouts at free-agent combines and kicking coaches outside of Dallas.
