ALOR SETAR: A medical-cum-monitoring team from the Kedah Health Department has been sent to the suspected Chikungunya hotspot at Jalan Tengku Ibrahim here after 14 people fell ill.
Its director Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail said the team comprises 16 groups and will check on the patients and monitor the area in front of City Plaza within a 200m radius. "They will also seek out and destroy mosquito breeding sites, and conduct fogging activities under our Active Case Detection standard operating procedure.
"Samples have been sent to the National Public Health laboratory in Sungai Buluh for confirmation," he added.Meanwhile, fabric retailer Heng Peng Kee, 59, said 10 of his 11 workers have fallen sick, and on Saturday , seven of them failed to turn up for work. "I am also a victim as my whole body is painful and feverish. I never had such a pain before, I initially thought that I could have injured myself while exercising.
