JOHOR BARU: A total of 2,545 people in the state have been arrested for violating the movement control order (MCO) since its implementation last month.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said that 136 individuals were arrested on Sunday alone."The cases are being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant from discharging duties, which provides for imprisonment of up to two years, or a maximum fine of RM10,000, or both if found guilty," he said in a statement on Monday .
The former carries a penalty of imprisonment of up to two years and a fine, while the latter carries a fine of up to RM1,000. Comm Ayob added that in the third phase of the MCO, police will be enforcing stricter action to those who are still found to be non compliant to the restriction.
