PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), acting on reports lodged by the public, is investigating an individual who allegedly insulted the King on social media.
The regulatory body said an “irresponsible party” had uploaded images that insulted the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Facebook on Thursday .
"Investigations are being conducted following reports received by the MCMC from the public, so that immediate action can be taken,” it said.“Investigations are being conducted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for using network facilities or app services to consciously spread news with intention to annoy others,” the commission said in a statement Friday .
It added that if found guilty, a person charged under the Section 233 was liable for a fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment not exceeding one year, or both.
