.SpeakerMcCarthy appeared to temper expectations for conservatives as he negotiates spending cuts with the White House in order to raise the nation's debt ceiling. 'One thing I will tell people is this still won't solve all the problems,' McCarthy said.

The president took a lot of things off the table, but this will put us in the first step," McCarthy told Fox News."Whatever we don't achieve here, we'll come back the next day to get it because we've got to start working towards being able to balance the budget.
On Thursday, Rep. Chip Roy warned that he planned on having"blunt conversations" with members of leadership over his concerns a deal would only amount to a"modest reduction" in federal expenditures. In the upper chamber, Sen. Mike Lee threatened to deploy"every procedural tool at my disposal" to"impede" in the Senate a deal that lacked sufficient spending cuts.
