MCA has decided not to mobilize its members for a solidarity rally for former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on January 6, citing respect for the Federal Constitution and its prerogative powers regarding pardons.

MCA has decided not to mobilize its members to attend a solidarity rally for Datuk Seri Najib Razak on January 6. MCA said it acknowledges the statement issued by Istana Negara on Friday (January 3) and said they respect the Federal Constitution , including the prerogative powers of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong under Article 42(1) and (2) to grant pardons, reprieves or to commute sentences for any offences committed within the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.

In a statement on Saturday (January 4), MCA also said its stand remained unchanged on the claimed Royal Addendum for Najib's house arrest, saying that the government must be transparent if such an addendum existed. Rally organiser and Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki earlier said that Umno would not proceed with the gathering for the former prime minister at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya on January 6. Earlier, MIC also announced that it would not attend the rally and would instead hold a prayer vigil in Batu Caves to show solidarity for Najib
