The Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) has appealed to the Finance Ministry to cap any proposed fee hike at the National Heart Institute (IJN) at a maximum of 5%. The MCA expressed concern that an increase of 10-40%, as initially proposed by IJN, would disproportionately burden patients, particularly those from low-income households, and potentially lead to an influx of heart patients seeking treatment at already overburdened government hospitals.
PETALING JAYA: The National Heart Institute has been urged to keep its proposed fee hike to a maximum of 5% to prevent heart patients from flooding govt hospitals.Here is his statement in full:
However, we believe that any spike should be capped at a maximum of 5% and must be accompanied by a commitment and exercise to improved medical care and resources for patients, and better remuneration for staff.
