Institute of Strategic Analysis and Policy Research said, based on interviews on the ground it had conducted over the past two weeks, over half of the respondents — both Malay and Chinese voters — indicated they will vote against Pakatan Harapan at the polls. Yong also noted that Chinese voters made it clear that they will be voting for Wee Jeck Seng, rather than for BN itself, due to his contributions in his previous two terms as an MP in the constituency.The Malay community, she said, would back the BN following the PAS-Umno pact and the historic charter signed between the country’s two biggest Malay-Muslim parties earlier this year.
In the last general election, Dr Md Farid Md Rafik of PPBM beat Wee by 524 votes. Farid died on Sept 21 due to heart complications, triggering the by-election.
