JOHOR BARU: Mazlan Bujang is unfazed over attempts to get him removed from his newly appointed position as the Johor Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman.
Mazlan said he was not bothered that certain parties wanted Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to reconsider his decision over theappointment."I never asked to be appointed as the chairman and had never told Dr Mahathir to give me the position," he said when met in a buka puasa event here on Monday .
It was reported that at least 21 division chiefs had a special meeting at the Bersatu headquarters here on Sunday to pledge their support for newly minted Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal. Mazlan added that the division chiefs have the rights to hold the meeting and does not held anything against them.
It is learnt that besides the division chiefs, the Bersatu women's wings have also come out to support Dr Sahruddin to be the state chief.Sources said that the Bersatu leaders hope to get signatures and submit a memorandum to Dr Mahathir, who is Bersatu chairman, asking him to reconsider his decision in appointing Mazlan and choose Dr Sahruddin as state chief instead.
