Mazda will unveil the first production Spirit Racing model, a performance-oriented MX-5, at the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon. The car draws inspiration from Mazda's racing heritage and features several upgrades for enhanced handling and aesthetics.
At this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon (TAS), Mazda showcased two concepts based on the Mazda 3 and MX-5 . Inspired by Mazda ’s involvement in the Super Taikyu endurance race series, these concepts featured performance-enhancing upgrades. Months later, Mazda announced it will reveal the first Spirit Racing model available for purchase at next year’s TAS.
The car, a MX-5 resembling the Spirit Racing RS concept from January, showcases a sportier front splitter, side skirts, bonnet decals, new six-spoke wheels, ‘Mazda Spirit Racing’ script on the front fenders, and a unique badge on the front intake. Red accents appear on the front bumper tip, side mirrors, and brake calipers. The production model incorporates some revisions, including a new boot lid lip spoiler and a modified suspension setup that doesn’t lower the car as much as the concept. The car also features new tires. Interior details remain undisclosed, but we anticipate Recaro bucket seats with racing harnesses and an Alcantara steering wheel. Alongside the Spirit Racing MX-5, Mazda will present the Roadster CNF concept using carbon-neutral fuel and the Mazda 3 Bio concept powered by biodiesel. A Toyo Tires-themed CX-5 will also be showcased at the event
